The pearl farm sits on Motu Taufarii with views across the lagoon to Mount Otemanu
Black pearls are sold in every jewellery shop across French Polynesia. This tour shows you where they actually come from. After a boat transfer from your hotel, you arrive at the pearl farm on Motu Taufarii for an introduction to the history of Polynesian black pearls and the techniques behind pearl farming. Then you go into the lagoon.
Snorkeling near a coral garden, you swim along strings of oysters growing in their natural environment at about one metre depth. You choose your own oyster, bring it back to the boat, and the team opens it to reveal your pearl. Everyone leaves with a pearl, either in a small sand bottle or a velvet pouch. If your oyster does not contain a pearl, spare oysters are available so a pearl is effectively guaranteed.
The experience ends with local fruits and fresh drinks on the motu, with views of the lagoon and Mount Otemanu. Two hours from pickup to drop-off, available at 9am, 1pm, and 3pm.
Two hours from hotel pickup to your pearl in hand.

Yes. Children aged 4 to 12 receive a 33% discount. Infants under 3 travel free and sit on laps. The snorkeling is in calm, shallow water at about one metre depth and the activity is suitable for children who are comfortable in the water. For children who prefer not to snorkel, the team allows oyster selection from the boat. Maximum group size is 12, which keeps the experience manageable for families.
Tahitian black pearls are cultivated in the black-lipped oyster, Pinctada margaritifera, which is native to the lagoons of French Polynesia. They are known for their dark, iridescent colour ranging from charcoal to deep green and peacock, and are among the most valuable cultured pearls in the world. Bora Bora’s lagoon conditions make it one of the best environments for pearl cultivation in French Polynesia.
No. If you prefer not to go in the water, the team will allow you to choose your oyster from the boat. You still participate in the opening and leave with your pearl. The snorkeling is optional but recommended as it gives you a direct view of the oyster lines in their natural environment.
